Mexico City is preparing to commemorate the Day of the Dead with a special edition of Museum Night next Wednesday, October 30th. In its tenth year, the program led by the capital's Secretariat of Culture invites 80 museums and cultural venues to open their doors from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, offering a wide array of activities for all ages, including altars tours, literary skull contests, and costume events.
Among the new venues joining this edition is the National Pavilion of Biodiversity, which will offer a night of mystery with workshops and demonstrations focused on nocturnal life. The Living Museum of Muralism will also be included, presenting its Day of the Dead altar and offering guided tours, all in a festive atmosphere.
The Archive Museum of Photography invites its visitors to walk through its altar dressed in traditional outfits or Day of the Dead costumes, while the Estanquillo Museum will feature an operatic presentation of the Mexican legend of Narina by the National Mexican Opera Company, in a unique performance at 7:00 PM.
Other venues, such as the Azcapotzalco Arts and Crafts Factory (FARO), have prepared activities like a musical show with a DJ and accordion, screenings of horror short films, and a tour of their altar starting at 5:00 PM. The Casa de la Bola Museum and the Tlatelolco Archaeological Zone will offer literary skull contests, folkloric dance shows, storytelling, and guided visits for all attendees.
For those seeking a more festive celebration, the National Arts Center invites everyone to dance to the rhythm of cumbia at the Extasys Tempest event, which will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with a costume contest included. Other participating museums include the National Museum of the Revolution, the Museum of the City of Mexico, the Historical Archive of Mexico City, the Palace of Fine Arts, and the National Museum of Watercolor “Alfredo Guati Rojo,” among many others.
This Museum Night promises an unforgettable evening that honors loved ones who are no longer with us, in an atmosphere filled with color, tradition, and culture.
